The City of Jacksonville's Memorial Day observance was rescheduled for June 9, 2012 because of Tropical Storm Beryl. Mayor Alvin Brown made note, before a large crowd of veterans and their families, that the spirit of Memorial Day should live within each of us every day.
"I often say one of the greatest things about Jacksonville is that we really, really get it. We understand the true value of our armed forces -- our young men and women who step forward to wear our nation's cloth," said the mayor. "We honor and respect each of them unlike any other city in America."
